Our Impact Across Africa

Call for Implementing Partners: Empowering Women Miners and Removing Children from the Mines in Africa.

Are you passionate about empowering women and removing children from mine sites?

Women in Mining Africa (WIM-Africa) is seeking dedicated implementing partners to join us in our mission to empower women miners and remove children from hazardous mining activities across the African continent.

As a grassroots NGO working in rural communities, your organization could play a crucial role in improving the working conditions and livelihood opportunities for women engaged in mining activities, while also safeguarding the rights and well-being of children.

Criteria for Selection:
1. Community Engagement: Demonstrated experience in community development and advocacy programs.

2. Local Presence: Strong presence and networks in rural communities where women miners and children are active.

3. Commitment to Gender Equality and Child Protection: A commitment to promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, and child protection.

4. Capacity to Implement: Capacity to implement projects and initiatives in collaboration with WIM-Africa. If your organization meets these criteria and shares our vision of empowering women miners and removing children from hazardous mining activities, we encourage you to partner with us.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of women miners, children, and their communities.

Countries Where We Currently Work In Africa

At WIM-Africa, we have strategically selected six African countries where significant numbers of women and children are engaged in mining activities. These countries include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Angola, and Sierra Leone. Each of these nations presents unique challenges and opportunities for our mission to empower women miners and remove children from hazardous mining activities.

Reasons for Selection:

While these six countries are our primary focus areas, we remain flexible and responsive to donor demands and changing circumstances. We are open to expanding our work to other locations where necessary, provided there are structures and systems in place for effective monitoring and implementation of our programs.

Join us in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of women miners and children across Africa.

  1. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): Rich in mineral resources, the DRC has a large population of women and children working in artisanal mining, particularly in regions like Katanga and Kivu.

  2. Zambia: With a long history of copper mining, Zambia has a substantial number of women miners, especially in the Copperbelt Province.

  3. Nigeria: Nigeria's solid minerals sector employs a significant number of women and children, particularly in states like Zamfara, Niger, and Kogi.

  4. Zimbabwe: Gold mining is prevalent in Zimbabwe, with many women involved in artisanal and small-scale mining activities, especially in regions like Midlands and Mashonaland.

  5. Angola: Diamond mining is widespread in Angola, with women and children often engaged in informal mining activities in regions like Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.
