Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Bethelihem Tesfaye Emiru, a new Board Member to join the “Directorate of Strategy, Planning & Research” of WiM-Africa.

A highly accomplished Geoscientist and academic, Ms. Emiru brings deep expertise in economic #geology, mineral #exploration, and mineral resource estimation. She currently serves as a lecturer at Dire Dawa

University in Ethiopia, where she is actively engaged in capacity building, field #mapping, and research on industrial #minerals. She holds an MSc in Economic Geology and a BSc in Geology from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University —graduating in the top tier of her class in both programs.

Her ongoing pursuit of a PhD in geoscience and her active involvement in academic #research, including her thesis on graphite occurrences in Southern #Ethiopia, reflect her commitment to advancing #knowledge in Africa’s mineral sector. Ms. Emiru also brings experience with geotechnical software, #GIS systems, and data-driven research, key assets for WiM-Africa’s strategic #goals.

At WiM-Africa, Ms. Emiru’s distinguished background in geoscience research and data-driven analysis will play a pivotal role in advancing Agenda 6 of our Seven Point Program Agenda (7PPA): WiM-Africa Research & Data Hub. Her expertise will strengthen our ability to generate credible, gender-responsive evidence to guide mining policy, community #development strategies, and sustainable resource #governance across the continent.

Her appointment also contributes meaningfully to Strategic Focus Area 2: Advocacy & Policy Influence; embedding a culture of research excellence at the core of WiM-Africa’s continental programming. Through her leadership, WiM-Africa is better positioned to champion informed reforms, influence regional policy frameworks, and support inclusive, evidence-based decision-making in the #mining sector.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Bethelihem Emiru to the Board. We look forward to the impactful contributions she will bring to WiM-Africa’s mission.
